Mario Rui’s agent confirms Napoli would be “a leading choice” if Roma don’t want to keep him.

The defender joined the Giallorossi in a loan deal from Empoli in the summer, but an injury prevented him from making his debut until January 19 this year.

As part of the deal which brought him from Tuscany, the Lupi would have to buy him outright if “a performance-related clause” is triggered, likely to mean a minimum number of games.

After just eight appearances so far, there has been no announcement that he will join permanently, raising the possibility he could go back to Empoli.

“He’s had a difficult injury, everything will depend on what happens with Roma,” Mario Giuffredi said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Certainly, if he were to be out of their plans, we’d evaluate every option. Napoli certainly represent a leading choice, and will [Maurizio Sarri] he’d have a big advantage because he knows all the dynamic of his play.”
