Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali insists Roma haven’t bid for Gregoire Defrel, and warns “we want to keep our players”.

It was reported earlier today that the Giallorossi had made an offer for an 18-month loan, with an €18m obligation to buy.

While the Neroverdi are expecting a bid to arrive, they insist that so far there has been no official offer.

“We want to try to continue until the end of the season with our players,” Carnevali told Sky.

“We don’t want to lose our top players. That’s the club’s desire, there’s a long way to go and we want to continue with the lads we have here today.

“We’re waiting to see Roma’s offer, when it comes in we’ll evaluate it but so far there’s nothing.

“We have an excellent relationship with the Giallorossi, and we’ll be happy to listen to their offer. To have an offer from a team like them would be a great honour.

“Our intention, however, is to keep our players. It’s not easy for Defrel to ignore the rumours, but he’s a professional and he’s training hard.

“We’re convinced that if nothing happens he’ll continue to do his best. It’s not that we’re closing the door to Roma, but we have to listen and evalaute.

“He has also been requested by teams from other Leagues, but we want to continue with our players.

“Roma have attractive young players too, so we’ll also evaluate that.”
