Slovenian Federation President Aleksander Ceferin has been elected as the new President of UEFA.

Michel Platini was banned from football activity, so a new chief had to be elected to see out his term, which runs until 2019.

The Frenchman was allowed to speak at today’s meeting in Athens, which saw Ceferin elected with 42 votes to Michael van Praag’s 13 votes.

A majority of 28 votes was required to win the election, and it was already clear last night that Ceferin had enough pledged supporters to win.
