Luis Muriel believes a prolonged half-time break hurt Sampdoria in their dramatic defeat to Roma.

However, the start of the second period was delayed after a severe hailstorm caused flooding on the Stadio Olimpico pitch, meaning the interval lasted a total of 80 minutes.

On the resumption of play, Edin Dzeko levelled the scores before Francesco Totti won it for Roma with a penalty at the death.

“The goal was very nice, coming after travelling with the national team,” Muriel said post-match.

“After 20 minutes I felt a little tired. The break was not good for us, Roma came back out on the pitch better.

“A draw would have been better.”

Muriel then praised Totti, whose decisive intervention denied Marco Giampaolo’s team a share of the points.

“He is a great champion. He is a player who has made history on the pitch and he brings pleasure every time he goes onto the pitch.”
