The striker's rift with the club is believed to run so deep that he has been banned from the team's dressing room.

“I love Cassano dearly,” Ferrero told the Genoa-based TV Primocanale. “I brought him to Samp with all of my strength, but Antonio's time here is done.

“I'd like to tell Cassano to stop playing tug of war with me. Why doesn't he go play for teams that want him?

“He says he gets changed in the staff room, but that's not true. We had a deal, that he'd come here for a year. But he was complaining as he wasn't playing enough.

“I spoke to him and I was clear. He told me that if certain people arrived, then he would leave. He had his time here, let him go and teach football elsewhere.”

Currently, Serie B club Virtus Entella appears to be the most likely destination for Cassano should he accept the move.
