Sporting director Pantaleo Corvino admits Fiorentina's squad is still not quite where he wants it: 'The defence must be completed'.

The Gigliati's hottest transfer link at this precise moment is for Lomotiv Moscow's Vedran Corluka, who is a central defender.

“Our defensive department must be completed with some experienced players,” said Corvino, as reported by ItaSportPress. “Since we kept the fundamental structure from last year, after it gave so many satisfactions to the Viola fans, I think we'll see Fiorentina fighting for important positions.

“There are still 20 days to go until the end of the market, so we'll try and do what everyone expects of us, especially in those departments where we are deficient.

“We need to improve the team by finding alternatives that are at the same level as the starters.”

The director was also asked what he thought of Fiorentina's games in the pre-season so far.

“I saw Fiorentina being tested out. Paulo Sousa had to work in a state of emergency, because he only got back his players intermittently. I mean the likes of [Ciprian] Tatarusanu, [Nikola] Kalinic, [Federico] Bernardeschi, [Milan] Badelj and [Matias] Vecino, who all came towards the end. A return of [Barcelona's Cristian] Tello? We'll see.”
