Sassuolo goalkeeper Andrea Consigli admits he 'cursed a lot, but these things happen' after his incredible own-goal against Fiorentina.

The goal may not have been decisive, as the Viola were already in the lead and it was only about five minutes from the end, but the goalkeeper's suicidal shot won't be forgotten very easily.

“My role can be very gratifying, but it can also lead to some bad moments,” Consigli told the Press after the game. “We're professionals after all and I still have a fire inside me.

“My role can be very gratifying, but it can also lead to some bad moments,” Consigli told the Press after the game. “We're professionals after all and I still have a fire inside me.

“After the own-goal I used some pretty harsh language of course, but these things happen and you must try and let them slip away.

“There's certainly been a touch of superficiality on my side that exposed me to a few extra risks. I was overconfident and I tried a first-touch play in the wrong position.

“If Milan win tonight then they'll widen the gap, but there are still five games for us and we'll see how it all ends.

“You've got to consider the performance of a goalkeeper over the whole tournament. Fortunately I don't make many mistakes like this. It's part of my job, which has good and bad sides.

“I know things like this can happen. I train and I work to do my best, and if I get called-up [for Italy] I'll be happy.”
