Mario Gomez explained he is leaving Fiorentina for Besiktas “to get back into the Germany side for Euro 2016.”

The striker only just turned 30 and today completed his loan move with option to buy.

“I am happy with this new adventure,” Gomez told reporters in Istanbul.

“My only objective is to do well here and I think I can do it. Besiktas has one of the best fanbases in the whole world and I received a marvellous welcome.

“Doing well at Besiktas, I can get back into the Germany side for Euro 2016. I am ready to pass on my experience to the young players in the squad. After all, experienced players must give advice to help the younger elements grow.

“I can’t wait to get started and step on to the field in our stadium. I won’t name a target for how many goals I want to score, as for me what really counts is that the team wins.

“I want to ensure I am ready to get going straight away and I don’t think there will be any problems.”
