Rafa Benitez admits “it was not easy” for Real Madrid against Milan, eventually winning in a sudden death penalty shoot-out.

The entire team went up from the spot before 18-year-old goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma saw his effort saved in this International Champions Cup tie.

“We faced a team like Milan who had been here for seven days and did not travel as much as us, so naturally they had good pace and pressed well,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We have already seen that it was not easy. In the second half, Milan slowed down and it was easier to keep hold of the ball.

“Overall this tour has been very positive and all we can do is praise the players for their attitude and results.

“The players ultimately make the difference. As a Coach you can give them ideas, but it is up to them to put them into action.

“It has not been easy to play in the heat and humidity in China. We had some difficulties against a good team like Milan and their new Coach who put his side out in an aggressively attacking way.”
