Lega Serie A are considering ‘many options’ including playing the first game of the season in 10 cities across the world, but there are hurdles.

Today's Lega assembly saw the possible project of starting an Italian football season abroad discussed, a plan which was earlier mentioned by Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis during today's interview with Radio Kiss Kiss.

“I'm working with the Lega and we're verifying whether the first game of the championship, next year, could be played in 10 different cities across the world,” De Laurentiis said.

“It depends on Sky [Sport Italia], but it would let us bring Italian football out into the world.

“We have thought about London, New York, Paris, Jakarta, Shanghai and Beijing.”

Lega President Maurizio Beretta, speaking to the Press after today's assembly, confirmed the project but highlighted the challenges they would face.

“The hypothesis of playing some official games abroad is very complex, and the Premier League has been studying it for several years now,” he said.

“We're starting from the assumption that there is an important potential in terms of promoting and endorsing our League internationally.

“There are many options that can be explored. Today we started discussing some of the ideas that can be useful to promote Italian football abroad.

“At the same time, we must confront the question of compatibility, as well as the complexity of such a project in terms of organisation.”
