Alessandro Nesta looks set to come out of retirement to play in Marco Materazzi’s Chennaiyin FC.

According to reports, the 38-year-old defender will be the latest 2006 World Cup winner to join the Indian Super League after Alessandro Del Piero and player-manager Matrix.

His good friend Cristian Brocchi confirmed the news with a tweet that read: ‘If you’d told me that you wanted to keep playing, then I’d have signed you! I can use someone outside of the quota.’

Brocchi is currently the Coach of the Milan Primavera youth team.

Nesta had retired from playing after his spell at Montreal Impact, having previously featured for Lazio and Milan.

A spot became available in the Chennai squad after John Stiven Mendoza’s injury ruled him out for the rest of the tournament.

Nesta can only join after December 5, as he is already signed on to play in the Global Legends Series in Bangkok that day.
