Juventus and Napoli are reportedly in agreement that the 2014 Italian Super Cup will be played in Doha.

The two sides will contest the previously traditional season opener approaching the winter break, although an official announcement on when and where has yet to arrive.

Reports earlier this week were that San Siro was a likely venue and that December 23 a credible date, but the Gazzetta dello Sport indicate that the clubs are actually now leaning towards a foreign venture.

Juventus and Napoli apparently considered different proposals, from Italy to China, but are seen now as leaning towards Doha in Qatar, for December 22.

It was believed that Aurelio De Laurentiis was initially against playing the fixture outside of Italy, but that he is ‘ready to change his mind’ and fall in with the Bianconeri’s mindset.

Doha officials have reportedly tabled a €2.5m bid including payment of expenses to host the event, and an answer from the clubs is anticipated by Monday.

The Supercoppa Italiana has been played abroad before, in the United States and Tripoli, whilst three of the past five editions have been played in Beijing.
