The capital club have begun brightly under Garcia’s stewardship, recording maximum points from the first seven rounds of Serie A.

In conversation with BeInSport this week, the 49-year-old was quizzed on the make-up of his new team and their summer arrivals.

“We had to convince Kevin Strootman to come to us,” Garcia revealed on the side’s Dutch midfielder.

“He wanted to be sure of his choice.”

Roma also picked up Mehdi Benatia and Gervinho during the summer market.

“In defence, Benatia-Castan is a very secure pairing and complementary and it is a good thing.

“Regarding Gervinho, the response is always in the field.

“Roma? They are for me a team that has not won enough. I have experienced something great with Lille, now the adventure continues somewhere else.”

The Coach was asked for comment on a number of other topics, including the upcoming League Clasico in Spain between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“I love the game of Barcelona, but my heart is as a Madridista. Cristiano Ronaldo has so far had the misfortune to be one of the best players in the world during the same time as Messi.”
