Adem Ljajic praised Vincenzo Montella, believes Fiorentina can beat Milan to third place and puts the Delio Rossi saga behind him.

The 21-year-old Serbian striker has had a remarkable campaign with nine goals and six assists between Serie A and Coppa Italia ties.

“Third place is our primary objective,” he told Rai Sport. “From here to the end of the season we must try to win them all and hope Milan slow down up there.”

The Rossoneri are only one point clear of the Viola in the battle for that last remaining Champions League spot.

Fiorentina were expected to go through a transitional year under Coach Montella, but have surpassed even the most optimistic predictions.

“We are all very happy with the way Montella has been able to give this group a strong sense of identity and, as many people say, allowing us to play the best football in Italy.

“We’ve got Roma this weekend and they have already beaten us twice this season between Serie A and the Coppa, so we know they are a strong and organised team. However, as always we will give our all to bring home three crucial points.”

Only a year ago Ljajic was in the headlines after then-Fiorentina Coach Rossi attacked him in the dugout, accusing the striker of reacting sarcastically to a substitution.

The pair crossed paths again last week when the Viola beat Sampdoria 3-0 and Ljajic got one of the goals, but pointedly ignored the tactician.

“I don’t want to talk about this anymore, as it is part of the past. I will only confirm there was no handshake.”
