Davide Santon is happy to be back in the Italian national squad, but he has no desire for a Serie A return. “I’m happy at Newcastle.”
The defender has not played for Italy since March 2011, but he could feature in Wednesday’s friendly against France.
“I’m delighted to be back in the international set-up, happy that I have the faith of the Coach,” he commented.

“If I play then I’ll look to demonstrate who I really am. I knew that I would get back here if my form was good enough.”
Santon was heralded as a star of the future after emerging at Inter as a teenager, but he was sold to Newcastle in 2011 after some tough seasons.
“Nothing in particular broke in Italy,” the 21-year-old continued. “I hadn’t played that well and I thought that I needed a change.
“Maybe I was talked up too much. There was Jose Mourinho, my first games, playing against Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United, being called up by Marcello Lippi.
“There was too much being said about me, but these things are lessons.
“Newcastle is a great experience for me. It was tough at the start though without family and friends. But I had to do it, I had to change and I’m happy with the decision. It is my intention to stay in England.
“A move to Roma? No, I have a long contract and I’m just thinking of doing well for Newcastle.”
