Maurizio Zamparini says “it would’ve been a crime” for Palermo to turn down Roma’s €4.5m offer for Federico Balzaretti, while Edgar Alvarez joins Dynamo Bucharest.

The Sicilians sold their Italian international left-back on Wednesday after he completed his medical.

“He had no intention of staying,” said President Zamparini. “At the end of next season, as with Antonio Nocerino last year, he’d have been free to join anyone he wanted.

“It would’ve been a crime for us to turn down the €4.5m that Roma were offering.”

Balzaretti’s contract with Palermo had been set to expire in June 2013, though he rejected Napoli’s proposal this week.

“Balzaretti had this extra boost of notoriety thanks to Euro 2012, but with all due respect for this lad who has given Palermo a great deal over the years, I think we’ll find a suitable replacement.”

Meanwhile, the Rosanero also announced they have sold midfielder Alvarez to Dynamo Bucharest.
