Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has explained why he decided to sign Fabio Borini during the summer.

The 20-year-old scored his sixth League goal of the campaign, in 14 games, against Parma at the weekend – the club who own half of his contract.

“I was concerned about our attacking department in the summer,” Sabatini told Roma Channel after the 1-0 win on Sunday.

“I was uncomfortable because I knew that our forward options needed enriching further,” the official explained.

“I knew Borini really well as a player because I had also followed him closely while he was at Swansea.

“I decided to bring him in on loan and then in January we decided to sign a half-share in him that saved us a little money.”

Borini, an Italian Under-21 international, only joined Parma in the summer on a Bosman after his contract at Chelsea expired.
