Juventus icons Marcello Lippi and Angelo Peruzzi have backed their former club's decision to target Giuseppe Rossi.

The Italian international is set to arrive from Villarreal this summer after Juve pulled out of the chase to net Sergio Aguero of Atletico Madrid.

"Juventus will be making a great swoop if they are able to land Rossi," Lippi, a former Coach in Turin, noted.

"As I have already said, I regret leaving him out of my Italy squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa."

Peruzzi, a former goalkeeper who worked under Lippi at Juve and Inter, agrees with the Viareggino.

"I have never seen Aguero play live, but I have seen Rossi in action," Peruzzi commented.

"He's the kind of player that would allow a top team, like Juventus, to take a step up in quality.

"He'd make the difference at any club, it'd be great if he arrives…"

Juventus have agreed personal terms with the player, but are still discussing a transfer fee with Villarreal.

The Azzurri ace is set to cost somewhere in the region of €25m.
