Napoli legend Pino Tagliatella believes that Morgan De Sanctis' form should have been recognised by Italy boss Cesare Prandelli.

The Azzurri tactician ignored the Napoli 'keeper for the game against Slovenia tomorrow night, instead calling up Gigi Buffon, Emiliano Viviano and Salvatore Sirigu.

"Morgan is in better form than Buffon, even if Gigi remains the best in the world, " Tagliatella noted. "Behind him the Coach has decided to focus on players for the future.

"It's the right decision and De Sanctis will understand, but Morgan is the best 'keeper in Serie A this season.

"He's at the top, with Samir Handanovic of Udinese behind him. Christian Abbiati [Milan] and Julio Cesar [Inter] are excellent goalkeepers too, but not always at their best.

"It's not madness to claim that De Sanctis deserves 30 per cent of the credit for Napoli's run in Serie A this season.

"He's playing the best football of his life, he's having a fantastic campaign."
