The Tuscans saw Levan Mchedlidze sent off just 25 minutes in due to a flailing arm and held out until five minutes from time, when Kevin Lasagna grabbed the 1-0 result.
“Empoli played very professionally and did more than anyone could’ve expected of us, considering we were down to 10 men for 70 minutes,” Giampaolo told Sky Sport Italia.
“The red card seemed forced to me. Carpi are a side who play rough and we saw plenty of similar incidents go unpunished. The referee could’ve let it go.
“We played very well for 70 minutes and created good opportunities, so I am proud of my lads. I don’t know why Manuel Pucciarelli’s goal was disallowed either, there seemed to be nothing in it.
“I think this game should anger the teams fighting against relegation.”
Carpi are now three points clear of Palermo and the drop zone, while Verona are now mathematically relegated.
“We also had a penalty that wasn’t given. This was the game, from the red card to the penalty. I am disappointed, as a professional, for many reasons.”
