Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero believes it is still likely that Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic will remain in Genoa despite rumours of Walter Zenga replacing him.

The Serbian has impressed this season by mounting a European challenge with the Blucerchiati and is widely expected to replace Rafa Benitez at Napoli this summer.

However, Ferrero sees the situation differently and also lamented the officiating of Samp’s narrow 1-0 defeat against Lazio on Saturday.

“Mihajlovic is fantastic, there are no others like him,” he said to Radio Crc.

“He has a one-year contract with Sampdoria and there is a 70 per cent chance that he’ll stay where he is.

“The icing on cake would have been to beat Lazio and we weren’t able to because of refereeing mistakes, but I'm not angry about it.

“Apparently some people think that, being in distant Liguria, we can’t get to the top of international football.

“I don’t believe in deceit, but in the game against Lazio the referee didn’t see many things like a push on [Lorenzo] De Silvestri.

“It was all very obvious. I would like nice clean football that is calm and entertaining. Maybe to solve these problems we should introduce slow-motion replays.”

The President also responded to recent rumours linking his club to moves for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli and Empoli Coach Maurizio Sarri.

“If Balotelli came to Italy he would find open doors,” he said.

“At least 48 Coaches have been linked with my club. I like Sarri, he is very good and brings the best out of young players.”

Sport Mediaset reported today that Sampdoria have lined up Walter Zenga as their number one replacement for Mihajlovic, should he leave.

The outlet believes that Zenga would like to bring Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante with him into the club should he join this summer.
