The Sardinians had already played their last few home games of the 2011-12 season in Trieste after a row with the local council over restructuring work needed by the Stadio Sant’Elia.

While there are delays over plans to build a new stadium, President Massimo Cellino ordered the team change to the Is Arenas in Quartu Sant’Elena.

However, today Cagliari announced they “have suspended – until further notice – season ticket sales” as the stadium failed security checks.

Cagliari are due to host Atalanta on Sunday in Serie A, kick-off at 19.45 UK time, again played at the Stadio Nereo Rocco in Trieste.
