This is already proving to be an extremely open group, as Shakhtar beat Real Madrid 3-2 away from home – having been 3-0 up at one stage – while Inter were held 2-2 at San Siro by Borussia Monchengladbach.
Hakimi was ruled out of that game just hours before kick-off by a COVID-19 test, which later turned out to be a ‘false positive’, so he is back in the starting XI.
So are defender Stefan de Vrij and wing-back Ashley Young, while Radja Nainggolan also recovered for a spot on the bench.
Alexis Sanchez, Stefano Sensi, Milan Skriniar, Roberto Gagliardini, Matias Vecino and Ionut Radu are still out of action, though.
Eriksen is dropped in favour of Nicolò Barella in the trequartista role supporting Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez.
Lukaku has scored in each of his last nine UEFA appearances across the Europa League and Champions League, so is closing on Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 11.
Shakhtar Donetsk lost the Europa League semi-final 5-0 to Inter back in August, but they certainly should not be underestimated after beating Real Madrid 3-2 in Spain last week.
They had been 3-0 up at one stage in that game, despite missing numerous players due to COVID-19 and injury.
Shakhtar are still without Sergiy Kryvtsov, Ismaily, Maksym Malyshev, Viktor Kovalenko, Yevgen Konoplyanka, Junior Moraes and Fernando.
There are returns to the squad for Mykola Matvienko, Taras Stepanenko, Alan Patrick, Taison and Sergiy Bolbat.
