The atmosphere is extremely tense at the Stadio San Paolo, as only around 25,000 people are expected in the arena, many of them ready to insult and protest against their own team.

Following the Champions League draw with RB Salzburg on Tuesday evening, the squad refused to go back into a training retreat, prompting a furious response from President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who announced legal action against them.

The fans also staged a protest during a training session, hurling abuse at several players, most notably captain Lorenzo Insigne, midfielder Allan and winger Jose Callejon.

Allan is injured, along with Kostas Manolas, Faouzi Ghoulam and Kevin Malcuit, while Mario Rui is not 100 per cent fit.

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly prepared to start Hysaj at left-back, with Elmas stepping into midfield to face off with his fellow Macedonia international Pandev.

Alex Meret should make way for David Ospina in goal, while Milik and Chucky Lozano are the favourites to start upfront rather than Dries Mertens and Fernando Llorente.

Genoa are without Domenico Criscito, Andrea Favilli, Riccardo Saponara and Stefano Sturaro, while Christian Kouame has gone away on international duty.

That means former Napoli veteran Pandev will likely complete the trident attack with Andrea Pinamonti and Sinan Gumus in a 4-3-3 formation.

Napoli: Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Maksimovic, Koulibaly, Hysaj; Callejon, Zielinski, Elmas, Insigne; Milik, Lozano

Genoa: Radu; Ghiglione, Romero, C Zapata, Ankersen; Lerager, Schone, Cassata; Pandev, Pinamonti, Gumus
