The tactician was presented to the media today after Pierpaolo Bisoli’s sacking on Monday, as the Sea Horses are without a victory since the opening game against Parma.

“I want to thank President Lugaresi and director Foschi,” said Di Carlo as he began his Press conference.

“My intention is to change the mentality of the squad. I want a new attitude and asked the lads to play it simple. We must be more attacking and courageous: this side must never lack a battling spirit.

“These next few days will allow us to get to know each other, I can already tell the group has quality and I’ll try to get the best out of all of them. It will be important to feel ‘free’ of pressure and put courage into their moves.

“There are some players I already know, as I’ve trained Lucchini, Volta and Marilungo. As for Hugo Almeida, he eliminated me in the Champions League preliminary round!” said the ex-Sampdoria Coach.

“I am convinced we can turn this negative trend around, then consistency can bring a sense of security. We need self-belief, strength and courage so that we don’t let our heads drop ever.

“I must say it was an emotional experience when director Foschi called me. Cesena is an excellent place to work in football. It will take a little time, but my objective here is to achieve something extraordinary.

“It will require the support of everyone, from club to fans, but destiny is in our hands. I think the head-to-head matches will be decisive, but we must try to pick up points everywhere and get some momentum.”

It is also a new experience for Di Carlo, as Cesena’s Stadio Manuzzi has an artificial pitch.

“In all honesty, I don’t think it’ll be a problem. If anything, we should try to turn it to our advantage.”
