Milan assistant manager Mauro Tassotti admits Barcelona’s line-up “surprised us a little” for the Champions League quarter-final.

“They did surprise us a little. Xavi and Cesc Fabregas were not too well yesterday, but they are starting tonight," Massimiliano Allegri's assistant told Sky Sport Italia.

“With all these players they will probably be even better in possession. We must close the lines and avoid the mistakes we made last Wednesday.

“How do we play? Defending is not enough. Barcelona always give you something, but we mustn’t throw ourselves forward and get too greedy.

“At times they exasperate the concept of offside and defend very high up the field. In the first leg there were a few favourable situations that with a little more focus could’ve become very important for us.

“Tonight we will try to do better.”
