He was their goalkeeper from 1994 to 1996, but was back at Marassi as a tactician to replace Sinisa Mihajlovic.
“Returning to Sampdoria after 20 years away is a unique feeling,” Zenga told fans at an event marking the start of pre-season.
“I had been away from Italy for five years and the affection of these people fires me up even more.

“We started pre-season training early because we have to take part in the Europa League preliminary round and want to do very well in that competition.
“My only objective is to do well for Sampdoria and along with the enthusiasm from our fans I’m sure we’ll do great things.”
