Cagliari coach Walter Zenga felt the draw against Lecce at the Sardegna Arena was the right result and confirmed that Radja Nainggolan suffers from a calf injury.
After an aggressive start and a game that saw two sides firing on all cylinders, it oddly enough ended in a goalless draw in Sardinia on Sunday, and Zenga felt the two sides deservedly shared the spoils.
“I think so, it was an open game with many opportunities,” he said in his post-match press conference. “Theirs were probably more evident, even if we had many shots on target too.
“It could have ended 2-2, the goalkeepers were good and I compliment [Alessio] Cragno.”
Cagliari sit 11th in Serie A after back-to-back stalemates and haven’t won in four, since the 4-2 win against Torino at home.
“We have some regret because we wanted to win, but in front of us we had a Lecce that always score on the road.
“Our ability was also to hang on until the end. We could win or lose, just like them.”
Inter loanee Nainggolan had to come off after 30 minutes and Zenga revealed it was because of the same calf injury that had made him doubtful before kick-off.
“Nainggolan had a calf problem, we’ll evaluate tomorrow [today].”
It was the Rossoblu’s third consecutive game without scoring but Zenga laughed off the concerns.
“I thank the ones who asked that question because they consider us a top team. This makes me happy and it’s a great honour, I will try to satisfy them, if there will be an opportunity to do it in the future.”
