The former goalkeeper is currently working abroad with Al Nasr, but he has always made it clear that he wants to one day boss the San Siro outfit.

"I don't like to publicise myself, but I thought about the Inter job even before they appointed Leonardo [in December]," said the ex-Italian international.

"I know that Inter appreciate and admire me," said the Beneamata supporter.

"I'm sure that, sooner or later, I will get there. Gian Piero Gasperini is 53, I'm 51. Perhaps in two years it'll be my turn…"

Zenga, who spent 12 seasons with the club before leaving for Sampdoria in 1994, has Serie A coaching experience with Sicilian outfits Catania and Palermo.

Gasperini was unveiled as the new Inter tactician earlier this week after the departure of Leonardo.
