The Giallorossi fought back twice for a 2-2 draw against Catania in the opening round and travel to San Siro in a high-profile clash tomorrow evening. Click here for a match preview.
“We are at the start of the season and no team is playing at its best. Both sides have changed a great deal over the summer and will need time,” said Zeman in his Press conference.
“Inter changed after many years of success, so the new faces will certainly bring new motivation. I have an important squad of players and we can make a great team. I think Roma had the best transfer session in Serie A and the smartest buy was Mattia Destro.
“We must have the hunger to prove we are an excellent side and that Roma can compete with anyone. The fans expect a lot and the team must live up to those expectations. The enthusiasm of a packed stadium will certainly do the lads good.”
The notoriously all-attack Coach is still working on transforming the possession football used by Luis Enrique last term.
“We waited for our opponents when playing Catania, which is not what I want. We must try to put them under pressure with our football.
“I am not afraid, as we are going to Milan in order to play our game very openly. Inter are a great side, but I love this type of challenge.”
Former Pescara Coach Zeman also reveals he had been in negotiations for the Inter bench.
“There was some contact, but I had given my word to another club.”
This week Roma sent Bojan Krkic on loan to Milan, a decision that raised eyebrows.
“Bojan is a good player, but his entourage always asked for more playing time and I could not guarantee that.
“As for Goicoechea, I don’t understand the surprise over his arrival. Every team has three goalkeepers.”
