Lazio outcast Mauro Zarate’s agent shot down reports of a move to Fenerbahce and warned “the war starts now. They have five days to lower the price-tag.”

The striker has been frozen out since last month when he refused to sit on the bench, but a January sale is tricky considering his wage demands.

“Fenerbahce? People keep talking about clubs he is never going to join,” snapped agent Luis Ruzzi on TMW.

“Genoa are a good side, but if we were to go straight there then it wouldn’t be an intelligent move. We refuse to send Zarate to Genoa on a permanent sale, nor on loan with reduced wages. Why should we?

“If a big club ready to buy Mauro came in and loaned him out to Genoa, then yes, we could think about it. But as of today that option is unavailable.

“I have gone round Europe and there are no clubs interested in the figures President Claudio Lotito is bandying about. So the war starts now.

“There will be no loan, because we have no intention of returning to Lazio at the end of it. It’s difficult to negotiate with Lotito, as he still hasn’t understood that he depreciated a jewel.

“Our position is clear: either we go to the end of the contract and then evaluate a future move, or the President lowers his expectations so we can consider offers from teams that are on a par with or superior to Lazio.

“We are giving Lotito five days to lower Mauro’s price-tag, otherwise we’ll go into the final six months of the contract and that’ll be his problem.

“We will not let this situation drag on until January 31. In any case, one thing is clear, that wherever he goes Mauro will still be loved and appreciated by Lazio fans.”
