Cristian Zapata says he was sorry to see Massimiliano Allegri leave Milan, and calls the derby a ‘wasted opportunity’.

Allegri was dismissed by Milan last term, and is currently on the bench of Serie A champions Juventus.

Zapata had some criticism for current Milan Coach Filippo Inzaghi this morning, and reiterates his need to play regularly while praising Allegri.

“I was sorry to see Allegri leave Milan,” the Colombian international reflected in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport.

“When I first came here he helped me so much. It’s a big step up from the provincial teams, it’s not easy.

“He’s a great Coach, who I believe could still have done good things with the Rossoneri.

“You can say that post-Allegri things haven’t gone very well for me… I repeat: to stay in top form, you need to play.”

Milan drew 1-1 with city rivals Inter in Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina, and Zapata believes the Diavolo missed a big chance to put some distance between the two sides.

“The derby was a missed opportunity. We’re sad about what happened.

“However, we have to win more, because for a team like Milan if you don’t win there will automatically be pressure on you.”
