The Inter captain has been out for six months after undergoing surgery, but returned ahead of schedule for the Nerazzurri on Saturday.
And the 40-year-old has insisted that he never contemplated giving up the game.
“I always knew I’d be back,” he told La Nacion. “I knew I’d play again. I never thought about retiring.
“I was always at the training ground. I attended the American tour. I always thought in a positive way.
“I have been received with great affection, and I’m glad to be back. I saw that even Tuttosport dedicated a space to my return – that was fantastic.
“Beckham contacted me as well to wish me a speedy recovery.
“The future? I have a contract until 2014, so we’ll see how I feel.”
