Maurizio Zamparini reveals he intends to sell Palermo at the end of next season, and there’s ‘very little chance’ of a new stadium.

The Rosanero patron has been the helm since 2002, and has become well known for firing Coaches and his colourful interviews.

“The season which is about to start will be my last in charge of the club,” Zamparini revealed in an interview with LiveSicilia.

“My intention is to leave in exactly a year, I’m looking for investors, starting from Sicily and then looking elsewhere.

“Until the last second I want to do my best for the club, that’s why I want to entrust it to responsible people.

“I’ve certainly never thought of leaving it in the hands of the mayor [Leoluca Orlando], those institutions can never bring anything good, only harm.

“Another possibility would be popular shareholding, but it’s very difficult in Italy to follow the model that, for example, Barcelona use.”

Zamparini was also critical of the local government over a proposed new stadium, and doubts the project will get off the ground.

“For my part, I intend to continue with the plans for construction, but you need the good will of the city.

“We’re making the required changes to the project, after which we must overcome bureaucratic obstacles.

“I think there’s very little chance, if any, of reaching a positive solution. If the administrators won’t try to work with us, then I’ll take note.

“Clearly the possibility of building facilities and creating jobs is not that important.

“Palermo have done everything, but it’s not enough. There’s no turning back, the stadium is no longer in the business plans.”
