Maurizio Zamparini says he is relieved to have ended his Palermo ‘nightmare’ after finally selling the club.
Zamparini initially put Palermo up for sale last year, when the club were still in Serie A, but saw his deal with media personality Paul Baccaglini collapse.
However, the 77-year-old ceased to be the Rosanero’s owner on Thursday as he passed on all of his shares to an unnamed investor.
“I gave a lot, but it’s clear that I haven’t been understood,” he told Palermo Today.
“I am a Friulian who behaved well, outside of your Palermo rules. I leave Palermo top of the table, but for this you’ve insulted me.
“I’ve been dragged through the mud by the city I’ve given so much to, leading me to consider the day of the sale as one of my most beautiful.
“I leave a nightmare, which I don’t want to talk about anymore. Reading that I’m a man inclined to commit crimes fills my heart with profound sadness.”
Despite their upheaval off the field, Palermo lead Serie B by two points after 11 rounds played and with one game in hand.
