Milan failed to convert two penalties against Bologna this evening, but Theo Hernandez forgot the rules when celebrating the second.

Olivier Giroud had already seen his awful spot-kick saved by Lukasz Skorupski in the first half of this evening’s Serie A match.

When Rafael Leao was brought down for the second, Theo Hernandez stepped up and fired his effort onto the upright.

It bounced back into his path and he deposited the rebound into the empty net, but started celebrating, having forgotten the rules.

“If after the penalty kick has been taken, the kicker touches the ball again before it has touched another player, an indirect free kick is awarded.”

Had the ball been touched by another player first, then Theo Hernandez could’ve scored on the rebound, but not directly from the woodwork.

Incredibly, this is the first time since June 12, 1955 that Milan failed to convert two penalties in the same Serie A match.

That was during a 6-0 victory over SPAL, when the errors were made by Juan Schiaffino and Gunnar Nordahl.
