Max Allegri explains why he does not want to start Kenan Yildiz and Federico Chiesa together ahead of tonight’s match with Fiorentina.

It kicks off at the Allianz Juventus Stadium at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Bianconeri were in action on Tuesday with the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final, beating Lazio 2-0, and stick to the same team here with Dusan Vlahovic and Chiesa facing their former club.

“The team has always trained well, we got the last couple of games wrong in Serie A. Fiorentina play very good football, so we need the right approach in every respect this evening,” Allegri told DAZN.

It is a big opportunity to lock down third place, as Bologna were held to a draw by Frosinone and Atalanta lost to Cagliari.

Vlahovic returns from suspension, having missed the 1-0 defeat to Lazio, a ban that he earned with a red card for dissent. What does the Serbia international need to take the next step up in his maturation process?

“He is still young and has a long career ahead of him. He has already improved, is scoring goals, but we need a result this evening.”

Allegri briefly flirted with the 4-3-3 formation, but quickly returned to 3-5-2 and is resisting the idea of using teenage sensation Kenan Yildiz as part of a trident attack.

“Yildiz has similar characteristics to Chiesa, he plays between the lines. With Milik out injured, it’s important to have another forward on the bench ready to come on.”
