What could Vlahovic bring to Arteta’s Arsenal?

Arsenal are reportedly the front runners in the race to sign Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic in this month’s transfer window, so what could the 21-year-old Serb bring to Mikel Arteta’s side?

If there’s one thing that Vlahovic could certainly provide in North London, it’s goals. The Viola talisman is currently the Serie A top scorer after the first half of the season, sitting at the top of the charts with 16 goals after 19 appearances. He averages 0.60 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes in the last 365 days; for comparison, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has averaged 0.64 per 90 in the same period (although he is more of a winger).

The 21-year-old Serbian striker also posses a strong reading of the game, with his off-the-ball movement being key for Fiorentina, allowing him to contribute to goals without even kicking the ball. This is backed up by his impressive ability to drop deep in order to help in the build up, giving the Viola’s midfield a short-passing option in attacking moves. His strong aerial ability also allows him to stay involved in play.

One of Vlahovic’s biggest weaknesses is his limited defensive contributions, with the player doing significantly less than his peers when it comes to tracking back. His passing game could also use some work, with only 69.9% of his passes being completed this season.

Despite this, however, it’s clear that Vlahovic would be an incredible signing for Arsenal, if they can pull it off. It won’t be easy, however, and for now the Serbian forward is seemingly not too keen to join the North London side.
