The 24-year-old switched to Marassi last summer on a loan deal with an option to be signed outright for €4m at the end of the campaign.

“It is a surprise to see Fiorentina fighting for a place in Europe,” the Italian told the Corriere Fiorentino ahead of this weekend’s meeting between the two sides.

“There is a good chemistry in the team and they are today collecting some really great results.

“However, I needed a change of environment, to rediscover stimuli, but I still have an excellent relationship with the club.”

De Silvestri has appeared in 20 Serie A games this season for the Marassi outfit.

The Viola are fourth in the table, just one point behind Milan who occupy the last remaining Champions League spot.
