Italy boss Giampiero Ventura has revealed his intention to “build a group of lads who can demonstrate their talent” at the 2018 World Cup.
Antonio Conte regularly complained about a perceived lack of quality talent coming through Italian academies during his spell as CT, but his successor Ventura has faith in his ability to nurture Azzurrini, citing his role in the development of Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Ranocchia.

Antonio Conte regularly complained about a perceived lack of quality talent coming through Italian academies during his spell as CT, but his successor Ventura has faith in his ability to nurture Azzurrini, citing his role in the development of Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Ranocchia.
“Compared to a few decades ago, there are no great opportunities [for youngsters] to emerge,” he said at an event promoted in Mantova by FIGC sponsor ENI on Monday.
“I still remember when I coached Bari, I gave Bonucci and Ranocchia their debuts in our opening match [against Inter] at San Siro.
“I’m trying to organise a stage dedicated to young players of 20-22 years, which will allow them to grow and wear the Azzurri jersey, without the fear that wrongly throws them out.
“My intention is therefore to build a group of lads who can, at the appropriate time, demonstrate their talent.”
