Torino Coach Giampiero Ventura complimented Club Brugge goalkeeper Matthew Ryan on “truly extraordinary saves.”
The Granata remain second in their Europa League group after a 0-0 draw with the Belgians.
“Faced with a great performance against a very strong team and a goalkeeper who performed at least three or four truly extraordinary saves…” Ventura told Sport Mediaset.
“I have to compliment him; some of those saves were incredible. On Martinez and Larrondo headers from point-blank range, well… The result did not reflect the game.
“We have to look on the bright side: Brugge have lost only one game all season between Europa League and their domestic League. We had I don’t know how many scoring opportunities tonight.
“In moments like this nothing goes your way, so you just need the patience to keep working and hope the tide turns.”
Torino seem to play better and get stronger results in the Europa League than in Serie A.
“Usually in Europe more or less everyone plays to win, so if you interpret it properly then you find the spaces to play your game. In Serie A we have met players who even used their strikers to mark our defenders and leave zero spaces, so you have to wait for a moment to break the deadlock.
“I think Torino played a great game with great football. Our position in Serie A might be deficient, but we could’ve had five or six more points if we hadn’t failed to convert three crucial penalties. Those moments can affect overall judgment of team performances.
“I have to hope this performance can restore some confidence and make the players realise they can get back into their stride.”
Toro face arch rivals Juventus in the Turin Derby on Sunday evening.
“We are talking about the strongest side in Serie A, but I don’t want to rely on clichés. I would be happy if we played the same kind of game with that same conviction and belief in our football.”
