The Azzurri boss continues his tour of Serie A clubs and today visited the Sassuolo training camp.

“The project of this club is very clear and also similar to the one I had at Torino: Italians, young and with bright prospects,” said Ventura.

“When you make plans like this, you must take into account the time it will require. Sassuolo are on the right track, both on the field and off it.

“They have many young players who can make their mark on a European level, but we mustn’t forget that the Nazionale have very few days to prepare for World Cup qualifiers.”

Although he is currently injured, many wonder why 22-year-old Berardi has not yet made his senior Italy debut after 40 goals in 92 Serie A games.

“This season he started so well, scoring many goals in just a handful of appearances,” continued Ventura.

“He is maturing and has impressive statistics. I take the opportunity to reaffirm my ideas on this player: recently he was not called due to tactical reasons and the lack of time we had to make changes in that sense.

“We are talking about one of the best Italian talents in circulation and we will wait for him. In future we’ll change our way of playing and he will be called.”

Ventura has continued with the 3-5-2 system used by Antonio Conte at Euro 2016, but has hinted he’d like to move to 4-2-4 or 4-3-3.
