Edwin van der Sar has insisted that Ajax can beat Juventus in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The tie sees Van der Sar face his former club after spending two seasons at Juve as Gianluigi Buffon’s predecessor, while Ajax have already thrashed holders Real Madrid 4-1 and held Bayern Munich to draws in this season’s competition.
“It’ll be an exciting match against Juve,” the Dutch club’s CEO told Sport Mediaset.

“We’re happy to be in the quarter-finals. We played at a high level against Real in Madrid and we hope to do that again against Juve in Amsterdam.
“The team are confident. They can beat Juve. We have a young team we’ve added experience to, for example with Tadic and bringing in Blind from Manchester United.
“We’re still in the Champions League and we can beat Juventus, having beaten Real Madrid and played in matches like the one against Bayern, which gave us great confidence.”
The 48-year-old was then asked about ex-Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who is in a race against time to be fit for the first leg in Amsterdam, as well as Bianconeri target Matthijs de Ligt.
“I know Cristiano well, I played with him for four years. I know how quickly his body heals and how strong he is mentally,” he added.
“He’ll do everything to be there because he wants to win and qualify, just like Ajax do. De Ligt has a great future ahead of him.”
