The Rossoneri have come to rely on their Dutch midfielder De Jong this term, playing in a position that for 18 months prior was occupied by his compatriot.

“I really like Nigel as a player and as a person,” Van Bommel considered to Milan Channel today.

“He is very similar to me, playing for the team and not for himself.

“He is a very important player for the team and for the dressing room. There are few players like him.

“And Van Ginkel? He is a good player, at Chelsea he has not played much due to a knee injury.

“He is a young midfielder, who runs a lot, doing well in both attack and defence. He has great quality.”

Milan are counting down to the first derby of the season with Inter at San Siro this Sunday.

“I played in two Milan derbies and for me it is the most beautiful game in the world, the fans are fantastic.

“My first derby was fantastic – after a few seconds Pato scored and the stadium exploded. It was incredible to win 3-0.

“We had to win that game because we were coming from a defeat to Palermo. In the second derby, though, I hit the crossbar…

“Who will win on Sunday? I will cheer for the Rossoneri definitely, forza Milan!”
