Fiorentina’s Borja Valero has congratulated arch-rivals Juventus for their successful swoop of Fernando Llorente.

The Old Lady wrapped up a deal for the Spanish international in January when he had less than six months left on his contract with Athletic Bilbao.

“Juve have made a great signing,” the Spanish midfielder told the Gazzetta dello Sport. “Unfortunately for us, he will help Juve to more trophies.”

The Italian champions have a new forward line after the summer Bosman capture of Llorente coincided with the signing of Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez.

“With Llorente and Tevez, Antonio Conte’s club are, more than ever, favourites to win the Scudetto again.”

Fiorentina were a revelation last term when they finished fourth. There are some who think they may be in with a chance of fighting for the Scudetto this time after bringing in Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez.

“Scudetto hopes? Let’s take things slowly,” added the 28-year-old. “The championship hasn’t started yet and the Europa League is an uncomfortable travelling companion.

“I experienced that at Villarreal. The important thing is that we continue to enjoy the football that we are playing.”
