The Lega Serie A is open to changing the date of the upcoming Derby della Mole, as it falls on the anniversary of the Torino Superga tragedy.
This massive fixture between Torino and their arch rivals Juventus is set for the afternoon of May 4.
It immediately prompted protests from Toro and threats of a boycott, as that date is the 70th anniversary of the Superga crash, when a plane carrying the Grande Torino team went into the mountains outside the city, killing all on board.

This afternoon, a statement from the Lega Serie A confirmed they are open to “a possible change of date, based on Champions League Juventus results and the UEFA draw that could involve the Bianconeri in a semi-final.
“We are well aware of the importance of the 70th anniversary of the Superga tragedy and the Lega Serie A will work to change the date of the game, if the conditions also fit the regularity of the league, to allow the Granata club and fans to commemorate the fallen of the Grande Torino side in a day free of sporting fixtures.”
Every year on the anniversary, the team and fans make a pilgrimage to the basilica in Superga where the crash occurred and read out the names of those who died that day, believed to be perhaps the greatest football team in Italy’s history.
