Giovanni Trapattoni is struggling to pick a winner between Juventus and Fiorentina, and enthused at Vincenzo Montella’s work.

The veteran tactician has had spells on the bench with both clubs, who this week meet in the first leg of their Europa League Last 16 tie.

“I cannot say what sort of game to expect, it is difficult to make a prediction,” Trapattoni has considered in La Repubblica on the encounter.

“I cannot say what sort of game to expect, it is difficult to make a prediction,” Trapattoni has considered in La Repubblica on the encounter.

“Juve have all the components of a great team, but Fiorentina will be motivated. Nothing can be ruled out, [but] Juve should win.”

For the 74-year-old, Montella’s work at the Artemio Franchi has in particular caught his eye.

“I believe that of Vincenzo and Fiorentina you can only say good things. I like Montella, he seems to me an intelligent guy and Fiorentina play very well.

“Even when I hear him speak on television and in interviews, I like him a lot.

“He’s having a brilliant career, moreover in a difficult and demanding city like Florence.

“He has my congratulations and I’ll cross my fingers for him for Thursday.”
