Francesco Totti is encouraged by Roma’s pre-season signs and asserts that the club must challenge for the Scudetto this season.
Rudi Garcia suggested the same in his pre-match words after the Giallorossi’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid and it is a message backed up by his captain and match winner.
“It was a strongly felt game, both teams were still not on top, but the important thing was to win,” Totti reflected post-match, after settling the game with a well-taken goal on the hour mark.

“Departing the pitch to applause is always a pleasure, then for me Real Madrid are the second team that I have always supported.
“I am proud, we have shown that Roma are here.
“This is the first time we have done pre-season in America, we are happy to participate in this great tournament with these great international teams.
“What does the result mean for the Champions League? It’s hard, but we want to get as far as possible.
“There are many teams that are much stronger than us, but we will try to embarrass anyone we play.
“Is the objective the Scudetto? Yes, we want to do better than last season. This club must fight for the Scudetto.”
Totti was asked if Garcia’s Roma are approaching the same level of the side that won the club’s last Scudetto under Fabio Capello.
“At the moment I have to put us below that of Capello’s Roma, because we won, but we have a team here that can do well.
“Hopefully the same thing happens as it did in 2001.”
