Players’ Association President Damiano Tommasi confirmed he is putting himself forward as a candidate to be the new FIGC President.
The Italian Football Federation is currently without a chief, as Carlo Tavecchio resigned after the Nazionale failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.
“It’s a question now of knowing what needs to get done and who can do it,” Tommasi told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s a question now of knowing what needs to get done and who can do it,” Tommasi told Sky Sport Italia.
“Many figures now believe the sport has to be taken in hand by someone who has actually played football. That can only be an added bonus for this Federation.
“It is something that in recent years we have been unable to make the most of, perhaps people didn’t realise or recognise how important that is.
“That is the approach we must have in these upcoming elections. It’s not about who goes in one role or another. The message of change must be sent to those inside and outside, moving on from the old-fashioned agreements.”
Tommasi is a former Roma midfielder who is well-respected by both peers and other Federation figures.
