Former Inter goalkeeper Francesco Toldo has praised Samir Handanovic, and thinks the Nerazzurri could still finish third.
Toldo spent nine years in the Beneamata goal, playing over 200 games and winning five Scudetti.
“Handanovic is unreal,” the former goalkeeper raved in an interview with Sempreinter.
“He’s carrying the team with his great saves. It almost seems like the norm, but I think it’s certainly not normal.

“Handanovic is unreal,” the former goalkeeper raved in an interview with Sempreinter.
“He’s carrying the team with his great saves. It almost seems like the norm, but I think it’s certainly not normal.
“He should be given more acclaim, this goalkeeper, he really excels and doesn’t get downhearted. He makes great saves. It’s difficult for him, because the defence suffers at times, but he’s always ready.”
Toldo played under Roberto Mancini when the Coach was previously on the Inter bench, and the former Italian international backs Mancio to take Inter back to the top.
“Can Inter still make third? I wouldn’t make any great proclamations, if they take things one game at a time it could be in their reach.
“You don’t want to give people false expectations, because then even if you finish fourth it’s a disappointment. You have to take things one game at a time, the goal will change with every game.
“I think this Inter team has it within them, but maybe it takes the right Coach to bring it out. They have an experience Coach who knows how to get the most from a team.
“Inter are on the up, and that’s also testament to his [Mancini’s] ability to get involved in the signings the club makes.
“I think in three to five years the team will return to where it belongs, and will stay there.
“In the Juventus game, Inter mounted a great comeback, which shows they’re in a good place mentally.
“In the second half they could have given us all a nice surprise and won 2-1, but they missed some chances, but I still think it was a good test in terms of character.
“Inter will be back, because they have everything they need to build a great future.
“They have the means and the corporate team to return the club to the fabulous levels it was at between 2008 and 2010.”
Finally, Toldo spoke about the now-infamous on-field altercation between Mauro Icardi and Dani Osvaldo, assuring that such things happen in football.
“It demonstrates passion for the match and the team,” was the former goalkeeper’s analysis.
“The lads got caught up in the passion of the game, it happens all the time. The important thing is to sort things out right away, and your teammates have to keep a lid on things.
“It’s not a great example for kids, but it’s good for the team, because it demonstrates that you have to demand the ball if you’re better placed.
“Both will have their say, but the important thing is to get things cleared up then and there.
“All great strikers are selfish, none of them would ever pass the ball while in front of the goal.
“What matters is that the Coach and their teammates explain that you have to give the ball to whoever is in the best position.”
